Former TISPOL President Koen Ricour has received a special award from TISPOL for his excellent service in recent years. Koen, a senior officer with the Belgian Highway Police, has represented his country ably for several years on the TISPOL Council and Executive Committee. He has also led and participated in the TISPOL High Risk Working Group.
More recently Koen performed excellent service for TISPOL, serving as President for two instead of the more usual one year. Despite a full time job in Belgium, Koen also steered TISPOL through a difficult period following the sudden death of General Secretary Ian Hamill in March 2014.
Koen's calm, smooth leadership style guided TISPOL through what was a difficult period.
His location in Brussels has allowed him to represent TISPOL at events there; he has always been willing to give his time to attend meetings in the European Commission and European Parliament on TISPOL's behalf. This has helped greatly in bringing the TISPOL voice to the door of Commission and Parliament officials and committees.
TISPOL General Secretary Ruth Purdie commented: “Koen has played a key role in enhancing the standing of TISPOL in Brussel's European bureaucratic and political circles, helping us achieve a recognised road safety and security position in Europe.”
