Traffic police in Cyprus have issued 20,000 traffic violation fines in just one month, over half of which were for speeding. According to police statistics, a road safety campaign carried out between February 1 and March 3 this year saw the authorities reporting 10,179 motorists for speeding. The other 9,858 cases were for other road safety-related offences.
The checks also included 9,611 breathalyser tests, of which 915 were over the legal limit.
A further 2,912 random checks at night clubs and bars throughout Cyprus were also carried out, with 753 owners reported for various violations.
One person was also charged by the police for providing bodyguard or security services without the necessary permits.
