Volker Orben from the Ministry of the Interior and Sports in Germany's Rhineland-Palatine has today been appointed as the new TISPOL President. Confirmation of his appointment was received at today's meeting of the TISPOL Council in Prague.
Volker takes over the position from Paolo Cestra from Italy. He is the second German president in the nearly 20 year history of TISPOL; he was preceded by Wolfgang Blindenbacher, the retired Head of Policing in North Rhine-Westphalia.
A police officer for almost 40 years, Volker is experienced in state and federal traffic and constitutes his main area of expertise. His career led him to the situation room at the Headquarters in Mainz and as deputy head of the motorway police station in Gau-Bickelheim and on to the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz.
He took over the traffic policing portfolio at the Ministry when he worked for the Head of the Rhineland-Palatinate Police Service. For many years he was part of the Committee for Internal Leadership and has played a significant role in implementing the cycle of leadership.
As TISPOL President, Volker is committed to strengthening the European-wide harmonisation of traffic safety regulations. “I am honoured to take up this role, and I pledge to continue the good work done by those who have served in this position before me," he said. "I believe a simplification of regulations is necessary. I will make this a priority when I am working with EU experts and other organisations for traffic safety."
We wish Volker every success in his new role!
