Because of their physical underdevelopment, children are the most vulnerable road users, especially if they are involved in pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle occupancy.
Recent studies have shown that as many as 70 to 80% of children's car seats are not used properly, and in Croatia this percentage is around 90%, neglecting the fact that proper placement of children in the car seat reduces the risk of injury and more than 90%.
Caring for the protection of children when transported in a vehicle from the earliest days should be the responsibility of every parent.
In order to provide the best protection for children when transported in a vehicle, education should be conducted in an interesting way.
Within the preventive action “Safe transport of children in vehicles”, conducted by the Koprivnica-Križevci Police Directorate in Croatia over the past 5 years, a large number of different activities have been carried out, which have significantly contributed to the reduction of the injuring of children in vehicles and the increased use of seat belts and children's car seats. At Christmas time, the picture book “Unusual wish”, written by police officer Ivanka Vusić, and published by the association “RODA - Parents in action” , is presented in an interesting way in kindergartens, primary schools and libraries.
The picture book is about Santa Claus who forgot to fasten his seat belt and eventually ends well, but also about the unusual wish of a four-year-old boy for his sister.
Do You want to know his wish? To keep his sister safe when driving in a car in a new car seat.
Let everyone be blessed, safe and happy for the holidays!
