Croatia: preventive action "Safe Vincekovo"

“Vincekovo” in Croatia is a folk-custom of blessing vineyards when in January the vineyards are “fed” with to homemade sausages and other meat products and watered with wine so they can produce well. Since increased alcohol consumption is linked to this folk custom, Police Directorat Koprivnica-Križevci conducted the preventive action “Safe Vincekovo” on a Friday in January to prevent traffic accidents caused by drink drivers.
During the action, at 21 locations police officers educated citizens about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol and advised them to use public transport or taxi vehicles in case they consume alcoholic beverages. The use of “designated driver” was advised to young people.
At the same time, police officers emphasized to the citizens the dangers of using a cell phone, non-use of a seat belts and speeding.
90 people visited the police information points and were given the leaflets "Alcohol - a bad driver" as well as other materials promoting compliance with traffic regulations.
