Poland: police officers and motorcyclists together

Police traffic officers from Wodzislaw (Slaskie region) took part in a road safety initiative recently. The initiative was directed at car drivers, encouraging them to "Look in the mirrors – motorcycylists are everywhere". Officers stopped vehicles, and motorcyclists appealed to drivers about paying more attention on the roads. Motorcyclists offered some gifts for drivers who support the action.

Spain: police intercept driver at 297km/h

Guardia Civil Traffic Police Force in Madrid recently detained a driver intercepted at a speed of 297 km/h. A Spanish-registered Porsche 911 was intercepted in Highway R4 at a speed of 297 Km/h. When the car was stopped and the driver identified, it was found out that the 36 years old Spanish National male suffered a disability which prohibited him from driving any vehicle at a speed exceeding 100 km/h.

In addition, officers realised that his driving licence was withdrawn because of penalty points, and that the car didn’t have a valid insurance.

Urgent action needed on road safety as new figures show increase in deaths

The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) says the European Commission must stop delaying new road safety policy measures if it is to help reverse an increase in deathson EU roads.    
Within the last year, the European Commission was expected to come forward with revisions to vehicle safety, pedestrian protection and infrastructure safety rules as well as a new target and measures to reduce serious road injuries.  Proposals on all four have been delayed, and it is not clear when they will see the light of day.

HGV Road Safety Project, ‘Operation Tramline’

Road safety initiative is extended across police forces in England Between February and April 2014

Highways England sourced a HGV tractor unit and partnered with police forces in South East England to pilot a unique motorway driver safety intervention named Operation Tramline. The initiative was designed to help the Police identify and record potentially dangerous commercial vehicle driver behaviour using a hand held video camera.
