Belgrade drug-driving seminar

On 6 November, in Belgrade, Serbia, the Seminar on Prevention and Control of Drugs in Traffic was held. The Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Interior of Serbia, the Road Traffic Safety Agency of Serbia and TISPOL. 24 participants from 16 countries, members of TISPOL, took part in the Seminar. There were also heads of Traffic Police Directorates from Serbia, as well as representatives of the Road Traffic Safety Agency.

Results from 'Focus on the Road' operation

Distraction in road traffic has risen rapidly as a cause of collisions in recent years. That is the reason that TISPOL continued the operation “Focus on the Road" this year.

From 16 to 22 September 16 countries participated in this operation and checked for the prohibited use of mobile phones, other technical devices and other forms of distraction.

Regulations in European countries are different, but in most of them using a mobile phone without hand-free equipment while driving is forbidden.

On Monday 14  October, during the TISPOL action week “Trucks & Bus”, the Belgian Police, both Local as Federal units, carried out common control actions targeting heavy transport on highway parkings in Bierges, (E411) and in Grand-Bigard (E40).

UK: police crack down on uninsured drivers

Uninsured drivers are being threatened with increased enforcement activity this month – as police forces look to crackdown on an offence which causes a ‘disproportionately high level’ of fatalities.

Figures published by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) show around 130 people are killed by an uninsured driver each year – with more than 26,000 personal injuries recorded in 2018, according to Road Safety GB
