Police operation: seatbelt enforcement checks to take place across Europe next week (11 – 17 March 2019

POLICE OFFICERS in 28 countries across Europe will be conducting seatbelt checks throughout the week of 11 to 17 March. Vehicle occupants who do not wear their seatbelt will be issued with a penalty. The action is part of a Europe-wide operation co-ordinated by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network, which takes place throughout next week.

 

As well as ensuring that seatbelts are worn, officers will also be checking for correctly-fitted child restraints and compliant helmet use among motorcyclists.

 

Norwegian Police visit Netherlands

During the TISPOL conference in Manchester 2018, TECH WG member Espen Andreassen from Norway came into contact with the supplier of the "enforcement trailer". During the Tech-WG meeting it became clear that an operational test period in the Netherlands would be organized with this trailer. John Gelderblom, Netherlands TECH WG member, was approached and a programme for a visit was drawn up.

TISPOL bus and truck operation commences shortly

Between 18 and 24 February, on streets across Europe, checks of heavy goods traffic and coaches will take place. It's anticipated that 27 TISPOL member countries will participate.

The focus will be on driving and resting hours as well as acceptasble technical condition of the vehicles.

During the large-scale week of controls drivers will be checked with regard of the Europe-wide social legislations (only those who are fit and well rested will be able to take part safely on road traffic). 

Drugs campaign 'Etoile' proves a great drug trap

Police and customs services from the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France and Belgium jointly held an international campaign against drug trafficking and drug tourism from Thursday 7 February to Sunday 10 February 2019.

241 of the 2 175 people checked were in possession of drugs and 19 of them were under the influence.

31 people were legally arrested and 10 vehicles were confiscated.

Checks on parking and resting areas in Germany: One in five truck drivers had alcohol in their systems

Time and again serious accidents occur because truck drivers continue their trips under the influence of alcohol after their resting period on Sunday. Therefore police officers have increased their controls at parking and resting areas. The results of last Sunday evening however are very worrying:

328 truck drivers have been checked

68 of them had alcohol in their system

48 of them were prohibited from further travel

19 truck drivers have had an alcohol concentration between 0,5 %o and 1,09 %o (promille).
