Malta: traffic safety operation

In the early hours of this morning ( 24/04/2016), a large scale operation was mounted by the Traffic Branch in the areas of San Gwann, Iklin, Birkirkara, St. Julians, Swieqi, Pembroke and St. Andrews.  Various road check points were established in the areas to curb abuses relating to traffic offences in an effort to save lives and keep Maltese roads safer.  These yielded the following results:

7 persons were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol which exceeded the legal limit,

A proud day for TISPOL in Rome

In advance of last week's Executive Committee meeting in Rome, TISPOL wrote to the Vatican seeking an Audience with His Holiness The Pope, to mark our 20th anniversary.

TISPOL's Italy Council member Paolo Cestra and and colleagues from the Italian National Traffic Police put arrangements in place to facilitate the audience. The full Executive Committee attended the general audience. Later, TISPOL President Aidan Reid and Paolo Cestra had the opportunity to greet the Holy Father.

Police across Europe prepare for latest speed enforcement marathon

POLICE OFFICERS across Europe are preparing for their latest "Speed Marathon", taking place from 0600 on Thursday 21 April to 0600 on Friday 22 April. The 24-hour initiative forms part of TISPOL’s week-long speed enforcement operation, running from Monday 18 to Sunday 24 April.

The Speed Marathon concept was devised two years ago in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Here, members of the public have once again been invited to vote on the locations where they would like speed enforcement measures to take place.

UK: a new look and feel for RoSPA

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has revealed its new look, as the family safety charity shifts its focus in a continued drive to save lives and reduce life-changing injuries.

After more than 20 years, RoSPA is saying goodbye to the “red square” logo that has become synonymous with accident prevention at home, on the road, at work, in the water and at leisure facilities, and, through the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, is internationally-recognised as the mark of quality for workplace health and safety.

Poland: police officers and motorcyclists together

Police traffic officers from Wodzislaw (Slaskie region) took part in a road safety initiative recently. The initiative was directed at car drivers, encouraging them to "Look in the mirrors – motorcycylists are everywhere". Officers stopped vehicles, and motorcyclists appealed to drivers about paying more attention on the roads. Motorcyclists offered some gifts for drivers who support the action.
