Lithuania: results from seatbelt operation

For a week in mid March, Lithuanian traffic police officers carried out seatbelt checks across the country, as part of the TISPOL pan European seatbelt operation.  

Officers detected 528 violations of the use of special seat belts and child seats. Last year, 525 such violations were recorded during similar preventive measures, 485 in 2015, and 655 in 2015. 

Norwegian winners of  President's Awards

Congratulations to Trond Sagbakken and Kenneth Rostveit, two Norwegian officers who have recently received TISPOL President's Awards for their outstanding contributions to roads policing.  

Trond and Kenneth have distinguished themselves by their exceptional skills that have a significant impact in reducing the number of fatal and serious collisions on Norwegian roads. Through their professional and dedicated work they have arrested more than 350 impaired drink and drugs drivers and other criminals.

Truck safety, mobile phones and disabled parking misuse on the agenda at TISPOL Operational Group meeting in Germany

Members of TISPOL's Operational Group (the 'OPG') met in Germany recently, and discussed the following topics:

Plans for Project EDWARD were launched at the meeting.  This year EDWARD is on 19 September and a high-level event on that day will take place in Madrid.  Building on the last two years a series of events will take place in each member country in a combined effort to reduce the number of fatalities on the roads of Europe.

Ireland: Cross border operation by Gardaí, RSA, and the Driver and Vehicle Agency Northern Ireland

On the night of 15 March 2018 Gardai from the Commercial Vehicle Unit conducted an intelligence led cross border tripartite operation focusing on tachograph manipulations. Garda personnel along with RSA Enforcement Officers and the Driver and Vehicle Agency Northern Ireland identified a number of targets who were then intercepted at Dublin Port. Gardaí arrested one male for using a magnet to create false records he was taken to Store Street Garda station and charged with dangerous driving and bailed to court in April.

RSA and Gardai Urge Road Users to ‘Put on the Green Jersey So Safety Wins!’ this St Patrick’s weekend 

Wednesday 14 March 2018. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána are appealing to all road users to put on the ‘Green Jersey’ for road safety and show their national pride by making it a safe weekend for everyone on the roads this St Patrick’s weekend.
