Malta: police 'box' suspected drink-driver

Members of the Malta Police Traffic section recently observed a Vauxhall Astra that dangerously committed a ‘U Turn’ on a main road. The driver was immediately signalled to pull aside, but he ignored police orders and a pursuit ensued. Vehicles reached speeds of around 120km/h, even in urban areas. After analysis  of the situation at hand, it was decided to attempt a ‘box manoeuvre’ in order to stop the runaway vehicle. 

TISPOL's 2015 Conference wins all-round praise

TISPOL's 2015 Conference took place last week at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport. Nearly 220 delegates gathered to hear presentations from a great line-up of senior police officers, policymakers, road safety and healthcare professionals.

A substantial social media conversation accompanied the Conference, with nearly one million people reached through Twitter during the two days of the event.

More than half a million drivers detected in European speed operation

Results from a pan-European speed control operation in August show that 549,000 drivers were detected for breaking speed limits. Police officers in 27 countries took part in the operation, which was co-ordinated by the TISPOL.

Of the final total of 549,237 detections, 192,654 were made directly by police officers and 356,583 came from automatic technical means.

European speed enforcement operation runs all this week

Police officers across Europe are conducting speed enforcement operations all this week, starting on Monday 17 August. During the TISPOL operation, officers will use a number of speed detection methods across all types of road.

The purpose of the operation is to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, and to remind drivers of the benefits for all road users of driving at speeds that are both legal and appropriate.
