Road Policing Conference, Dublin

The recent Road Policing Conference was about reducing risks on Europe's roads, and in just about every presentation we looked at risk and the risk of  crime. Here are some of the take-away points from the Conference:

Criminality on our roads does not sit well. All our speakers really enforced this point, and we must remember that criminality does not see borders.

Ireland: Operation Slow Down

An Garda Síochána and GoSafe conducted a large scale national speed enforcement operation "Slow Down” between 7am Friday 27th May and 7am Saturday 28th May 2016. 

The objective was to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.  Since 7am yesterday morning, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe has checked the speed of 176,521 vehicles with 322 detected travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Latest traffic checks in Malta

On Friday 13 May a joint road check operation was carried out between Malta's Traffic Branch, Drug Squad, Dog Section and RIU.  This road check yielded the following results:

2 persons were arrested for possession of Drugs

4 vehicles were found to be driven with an expired circulation licence

1 vehicle was being driven without a valid insurance cover

2 vehicles were being driven with lights not in accordance with the law and

1 driver was booked for dangerous driving
