Police operation: seatbelt enforcement checks to take place across Europe this week

Police officers across Europe will be warning drivers they are risking their lives by not wearing seatbelts. Vehicle occupants who do not wear their seatbelt will be issued with a penalty. The action is part of a week-long operation coordinated by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network, and taking place throughout next week.

Lithuanian crackdown on distracted driving

Lithuanian police officers last week launched a series of robust control measures against distracted driving and using of mobile phones while driving. Dozens of driver licences have been seized. 

To help reduce the number of people killed and injured on Lithuanian’s roads, the police have launched a campaign reminding drivers not to use a mobile phone whilst behind the wheel. At the same time, forces have carried out targeted operations to catch traffic offenders.

Congratulations from the Lithuanian Traffic Police on a very snowy International Women's Day! March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Women's Conference in New York to become an "International Woman's Day". This day commemorates the movement for women's rights - to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage, and actually the right to drive.

New EU vehicle safety standards essential to reducing child road deaths

More than 8,000 children aged 0-14 years have been killed in road traffic collisions over the last ten years in the European Union, new data show. Half of the children killed were travelling in cars, a third were walking and 13% were cycling, according to a report published today by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC).

One in every 13 child deaths in the European Union occurs as a result of a road collision.

Finland: intensive surveillance off heavy traffic

The police will conduct an intensive surveillance operation on heavy traffic throughout Finland from Monday to Sunday, 26 February to 4 March 2018. All police departments in Finland will take part in the operation. The aim of the operation is to improve road safety and combat crime associated with the shadow economy and transport.

The intensive surveillance operation is also part of the Europe-wide enforcement theme of the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL).
