At least 16 dead in Bulgarian bus crash

Our sympathies are with the families of those involved in the recent Bulgarian bus crash. Lates repiorts show at least 16 people were killed and another 26 were injured when a tourist bus flipped over on a highway near the capital Sofia.

Police said a bus carrying tourists on a weekend trip to a nearby resort overturned and then fell down onto a side road 20 metres below the highway. 

The accident happened at 5:10pm (local time) on Saturday about 20 kilometres north of Sofia.

Ambulances rushed to the scene and took the injured to Sofia hospitals.

Gig economy drivers more likely to be involved in traffic collisions
Self-employed drivers and couriers are at a “heightened risk” of being involved in a road traffic accident, according to a new study.

A survey of gig economy drivers and couriers carried out for a new report by the University College London’s Centre for Transport Studies found two in five (42%) reported that their vehicle had been damaged as a result of a collision while working.

TISPOL Road Policing Seminar attracts positive comments from participants

Thirty-six participants from 14 European countries met from 6 to 10 August to get information and to exchange views on different aspects of road safety. The Road Policing Seminar was organised for a second time by the German TISPOL office in cooperation with the Rhineland-Palatinate Police University.

Week-long police speed enforcement operation begins today

POLICE OFFICERS across Europe commence a week-long speed enforcement operation starting today (Monday 6 August). During the operation, co-ordinated by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), officers will use a number of speed detection methods across all types of road. The purpose of the operation is to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, and to remind drivers of the benefits for all road users of driving at speeds that are both legal and appropriate.
