Ireland: motorcyclists urged to bike safe this summer

  • 171 motorcyclists have been killed and 629 seriously injured since 2010
  • Summer is high risk for motorcyclists, especially Saturday and Sunday
  • Approved PPE, high visibility clothing and ’ease off the throttle’ 
  • Drivers need to look and look again for motorcyclists

 

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána are appealing to motorcycle riders to ‘Bike Safe’ as the risk to riders’ safety is set to increase over the summer months.

Luxembourg: grossly overweight van seized on its way to Algeria

On May 21, the highway patrol in Luxembourg was contacted because of a broken down van. Because of cracked/busted twin tyres, the vehicle was immobilized on the emergency lane from the highway A1 between Germany and France. The driver, who came from Germany, was on his way to Marseille to take the ferry to Algeria. It was immediately apparent that the van was heavily overloaded. Because of the overload, the chassis was torn in the middle and the front left suspension was broken.

More than one hundred arrests in police action against itinerant criminals

Police in the Netherlands have arrested at least one hundred people during a national operation against itinerant criminals. The arrestees are suspected, among other things, of shoplifting, pickpocketing and illegal possession of weapons.

Agents did research in the Netherlands last week on itinerant criminals, who often come from Eastern Europe. In the action, called Trivium, the police received assistance from, among others, the Tax Authorities, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and German and Belgian colleagues.
